Today I had to sit through a presentation, which left me bulbing. Did not know what was happening. An 18 minute presentation having 73 slides, with a lot of text written in most of them. That's one slide every 15 seconds. And there are many others who make it pathetic by doing something shady. As a person listening to the presentation, these are my inputs to make a good presentation.
- Never write lengthy paragraphs. We don't have the patience to read them.
- Know how long the presentation should be. Don't bore us, please.
- Allot about a minute and a half for each slide. Give us time to look at what you have put on the slide
- Put only important points on the slides. That's enough. Rest, you are supposed to deliver through speech.
- Include pictures, schematics to help in understanding. That makes it colourful, and easy to understand.
- Don't read from the slide. Man, we can do that myself. We don't need you for that.
- Don't show us your ass. We want you to face us, not the wall.
- Prepare well in advance. We don't want to see you bulb here.
- Anything else you think is important as well. I cocncede, I can't think of everything.
