Do what you feel is right

In many communities that I visit on orkut, I see people giving suggestions, or are discussing conflicting issues that confront us in our lives. Many of these suggestions echo what the title says - Do what you feel is right or Listen to your heart. This blog is directly addressed to those who say this.

I don't understand what you people are trying to do? You seem to be just expressing a popular opinion. Do you think that by expressing such opinions, you become cool, broad-minded and secular?

First of all, no one will discuss an issue if it can be resolved by themselves. So what's the point in saying "do what you feel is right."? Everyone's equally confused. Does that mean we should abandon trying to know what is right? Your suggestion only implies that. You are essentially saying "Listen, I don't know what is right or wrong. I can't know too. So, I don't care about it. I just lead my life without worrying about all these. I just do what I feel is right".

Basically you are lazy. You do not want to take the effort to know what is right or wrong. Don't tell me right and wrong are relative. Think again. Why on earth did Buddha emphasise on the eight-fold path. Are you saying that Buddha was a jobless fool?

Your opinion also means you don't care about the society. You don't care for the well-being of the society. You don't care if your neighbour is a murderer or a rapist . For after all, he did what he thought was right, didn't he? As long as your needs and wants are fulfilled you are happy. Where's the heart in you? Where's the human being in you? I know I am interpreting you in an extreme fashion. But, that is neceessary to point out the implications completely.

It also means you have no opinion. Who told you it is wrong to have an opinion? It may be uncool to have a radical opinion, but it is equally uncool if you have none. And you think it is cool, duh!

I think it is our duty to try to find out what is right and what is wrong, so that we lead correct lives. It is a continous learning process with multiple iterations that goes on till the very end of our lives. It may be painful, but it is worth it.
