Love
This understanding comes because in most of our lives, there is no love. We are all the time so busy running afterthe material pleasures of the world outside us that we forget ourselves, our heart and its needs. Our heart needs love. So we continously seek love from people. Obviously, we don't get it because every other heart is also needing love. How can one beggar feed another? In that sense, we are all begging for love from someone. Not openly, but so secretively that we ourselves don't know. And when by some rare stroke of luck, we do find that heart which loves us, we say 'He loves me' or 'She loves me'. I become happy. And I start to return that love.
Suppose all of us loved one another. Then it doesn't matter who loves or who is loved. Or, in other words, there is no subject or object, and therefore love cannot be a verb. Now, I need to prove this.
Consider an old couple who are living happily. In those days, parents fixed marriages, and therefore, the two people had to live with each other whether they liked them or not. They have lived like that for years, raised about half a dozen to dozen children and will still be going through their lives. These two people cannot live without each other. If any one hasn't seen such a couple, at least read 'Bridge Across Forever' by Richard Bach. It is possible. Something makes them love each other despite all their apparent differences. How is this possible? It is possible if and only if Love is an affair of the Heart. We know that a human being must have a heart even if he has nothing else. No need of brains, no brawns, no beatiful eyes, no long hair, no fair skin, nothing. Only heart. And since every human has a heart it is possible to love everyone. ALL LOVES ALL.
So when all loves all, where is the subject? where is the object? All that is there is Love. It is like an ocean of Love and we are just a part of it. In that state, there is no giving love or taking love, but being Love. Feeling Love. Long back a certain friend of mine told me about a poet in Kannada. In one of his poems he says something like this: 'Love is the stream that flows through all the hearts'. How beautiful!
So you see, I am not required to love somebody, worse still if I expect to be loved. I just need to experience the Love that already exists in this universe. I need to discover it, I mean dis-cover it in my heart and then ......
