National Youth Day

Today, the 12th January happens to be Swami Vivekananda's birthday. In remembering this great leader of India, we should also try to remember what he has said. It was his belief that India can achieve glory by combining the immense spiritual knowledge of the East and the great scientific knowledge of the West.

Another very important teaching of Swamiji was

Utthistatha Jaagrata Praapya Varaan Nibodhhatha

which means, "Arise, Awake, and stop not till the Goal is achieved." This, to me is a very inspiring statement. The beauty of the statements is that it is applicable to anyone, desiring success in any field, although, in the Upanishad in which this occurs (I don't know which), the words have specific meanings. Why should we arise? Why should we wake up? Does it mean that we are sleeping? If so, in what way are we sleeping? What does the word 'Goal' mean? These are questions for which an individual should seek an answer.
