Power of thought
I had to travel to Chennai three years ago to attend an interview for the NUS/NTU scholarship to study in Singapore. The interview was on May 14. Peak of summer in Chennai. I had just checked the weather the previous two days, and found the temperature to be hovering around mid-40s. Bangalore was in low 30s. It was the first time I was going to face such heat. While on the bus to Chennai, I told myself that no matter how hot it would be, my body can take it. Result: I did not feel the heat a bit even when I stayed outdoors between 11 a.m and 4 p.m. No headache. Nothing. Later I found out that that day was the hottest that year.
After coming to Chennai, and getting used to the weather, going to Bangalore specially during winter was a challenge. I have found till date that a positive thought has helped me cope with the drastic weather changes.
Yesterday my toe got hurt, and since morning I have been experiencing excruciating pain. Sometime back I realised that I was actually causing the pain to increase by giving it strength by being weak mentally. This very realisation gave me enough strength, and now the pain has subsided.
In life we see that sometimes thought has great strength and it can work wonders. Some other times, it seems to fail. What gives thought its power is our faith in the ability of the thought to do work. The more faith we have in its strength, the stronger the thought itself is. Everytime we apply a certain thought with this faith, there is no way the thought cannot work. Only doubt, desperation and fear can drain a thought of the strenght it possesses.
