Mortality or Immortality?
What is surprising is the peculiarity of human nature. None of us ever think about death. Till we get old, and all our kith and kin have left this world, or have kicked us out, the possibility of death never enters our mind. For some, even at that age, they wish God grants them a few more years to live, so that they can continue to enjoy life, or fulfil all their unfulfilles desires. I know eighty year old grandpas doing Ayusha Homam*. When an octagenarian has so many desires, less said the better about much younger people. It is almost as if w believe we are immortal. It therefore seems that we wish to be immortal on one side, but at the same time, we seem to prefer mortality over immortality.
Why do we exhibit this peculiarity, where we do not know what we want? Or is it that we are afraid of what we want, whether it be mortality which makes us believe that we are immortal and act as if our lives are eternal, or immortality, because of which we prefer to die some time or the other than suffer the pains of infinite life?
*Ayusha Homam is a ritual performed where the performer hopes to have a longer life due to the blessings of God.
