God is necessary

Two days ago, when Prof. Balki was asked at the end of his lecture whether God exists, he said that he didn't know, but added that he thought that a God must exist in order to "take care of the blighter who took a turn on the wrong side of the road". Today evening, as I sipped tea, I started to think about this. And these are the thoughts that came to me, which of course I am presenting in a comprehendable form.

Let us assume that God is a concept invented by man. This God is considered to be benevolent, loving, compassionate, forgiving, devoid of qualities like hate, prejudice, jealousy etc. Whether he exists or not, such a concept of God is necessary for the society, because, it provides an idea of how an ideal person should be. Therefore, if ever, anyone desires to become like God, he would have to possess those qualities which are called Godly. Now, if only everyone in the society begins to desire to become such, what results is a society where people are loving, and considerate to each other. There shall be no selfishness. This should lead to an ideal society.

What Balki's statement implies is that if there is a God, we need not take into our hands everything. We can leave it to Him to take care of those we do not like, thus keeping ourselves free from dirtying our hands in trying to bring him to justice. This will naturally reduce the levels of intolerance, hate, and revenge in the society which is ultimately beneficial to the society as a whole and to each individual in it.
